Obituary

Peter Roosevelt Suydam, age 77, of New York City, former resident of Piermont, NY, died Friday, January 28, 2005 at the Terrence Cardinal Cooke Nursing Home in New York City. He was born in Dumont, NJ August 20, 1927 to the late Clarence Edward Suydam and Lillian Mae (Sims) Suydam. Peter received his elementary education in Cresskill, NJ and Sparkill Elementary and graduated from Tappan Zee High School in Peirmont, NY. He served in the Air Corp during World War II and received an honorable discharge. Upon completion of the armed services, he attended Brooklyn College and was past president of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Chapter ā€œLā€œ. From his first marriage with Rose, Peter was blessed with a daughter Lori Suydam Ventre who resides in Los Angeles, CA Peter embarked on a sales career with the same diligence and passion as he did with his civi activities. In 1962, Peter and Doretha Evans were joined in matrimony and moved into River Terrace in New York City. From this union the couple was blessed with a son Neil Brett Suydam. Peter continued to pursue his interest in civic affairs during his lifetime. He served several terms as Chairman of the Board of Directors of River Terrace in addition to serving as Recording Secretary. Peter was also very active in the Robert Terrace Men's Club. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Doretha, son, Neil and, daughter Lori Suydam Ventre; sister Elinore Suydam Walker, Lauderhill, FL; brother Clarence Suydam with wife Martina, Nanuet, NY; nephews Richard Suydam, Leon Wilson, Bernard Suydam, Gerald and Arden Suydam, William and Kenneth Jackson; nieces, Ellen Waldron, Sharon Johnson, Michelle Webb and Ingrid Joyner. Predeceased members of his immediate family include mother Lillan and father Clarence, sisters Mary, Elizabeth (Betty), Margretta and brother Willis.
