Dorothy Higgins, of New City, NY, died on Saturday, July 1 at Nyack Hospital. She was 89 years old. She was born in Piermont, NY on January 6, 1917 to George and Blanche (Halliday) Stevenson. Dixie was a New City resident since 1989 and prior Nanuet resident. She was a graduate of Tappan Zee High School and NY Hospital - Cornell School of Nursing. Dixie was a graduate of the Renaurd School of Embalming and in 1942 became the first woman funeral director in Rockland County. She was the Vice President of the Michael J. Higgins Funeral Service. She was a life member of the Nanuet Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary. She was predeceased by her husband, Michael J. Higgins in 1996. Dixie is survived by her sons: Daniel, of New City, Steven and his wife, Mary, of New York, NY and Robert and his wife, Susan, of New City. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Brendan and his wife, Michelle, Ryan, Erin and Walker. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 5 at 10:15 am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, West Nyack. Burial at St. Anthony's Cemetery, Nanuet. Visiting at Michael J.
