Obituary

Mr. Richard G. Merna, 71, of Clinton, MD, died on July 4, 2006 at Southern Maryland Hospital in Clinton. He was born in New York City to George F. and Geraldine Byers Merna on August 7, 1934. Mr. Merna attended St. Dominic's Convent in Blauvelt and St. Agnes Home for Boys in Sparkill, and graduated from Tappan Zee High School in Piermont in 1953. He served in the US Marine Corps twice, from 1953-1958 and from 1961-1962. including 15 months in Korea with the First Marine Division. Upon his discharge, he attended the University of Maryland. He worked in Washington, D.C. in the private sector and for the former Interstate Commerce Commission, and the Internal Revenue Service. He was a 100 percent disabled veteran. He is survived by three brothers and a sister, Gerald F. (Dorothy), of Potomac Falls, VA; Robert P., of San Jose, CA; James E. (Suzanne), of Annapolis, MD and Locust Grove, VA, and Vivian Rendes (Al), of Sun City West, AZ, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother George, killed in action in WWII, and a younger brother Thomas. Funeral arrangements by LEE FUNERAL HOME, Clinton, MD. Interment Tuesday, July 11 at 11 am, Quantico (VA.) National Cemetery.
