Joseph S. Grasso, of Monsey, died at his home on Thursday, June 10, 2004 at the age of 76. Mr. Grasso was born on November 28, 1927 to James E. and Inez Grasso in Nyack, NY. Joseph was a lifelong Rockland County resident. He graduated from Tappan Zee High School, Syracuse University and received his masters from William Paterson University. He served in the Merchant Marine during WWII and then served in the U.S. Army in Korea. Joseph married Belle Wamsley on June 10, 1962 at St. Ann’s Church in Nyack. He has been a teacher at Suffern High School for 42 years, where he was also the Football coach for many years, along with other sports. Mr. Grasso is a member of the Rockland County Sports Hall of Fame, The Ramapo Teachers Assoc., New York State Teachers Assoc., The American Legion Post 1099, and a member of the Sparkill Fire Company. Joseph is survived by his devoted wife of 42 years, Belle of Monsey, NY; his two loving sons: James and his wife, Laura Grasso of Ridgewood, NJ and Greg and his wife, Luciana Grasso of Pomona; his cherished grandchildren: Anna Marie, Meghan Eleanor and Joseph James Grasso; his dear sister, Stella Mowerson of Tappan, NJ; and he was predeceased by his brother, Cosmo Grasso. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 14, 2004 at Sacred Heart Church in Suffern at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in the family plot at Oak Hill Cemetery in Nyack. The Family will be present to receive friends on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the WANAMAKER & CARLOUGH F.H., 177 Route 59, Suffern, NY.
