Joseph DeVito was born and lived in Piermont, NY for much of his life before moving to Cliffside Park, NJ. He is a graduate of Tappan Zee High School in Piermont where he was a basketball star. Joseph worked at Lederle Laboratories before being drafted to serve our country in World War II. He served in the U.S. Army 100th Infantry Division and was deployed to England and France before receiving a purple heart after being wounded in Germany. After his service Joseph took advantage of the GI bill and graduated from Columbia University. Joseph worked as a draftsman for several architecture firms in NewYork City.He worked as a Project Captain with Charles Luckman Associates. While working with Charles Luckman he accomplished many prominent projects such as the New York State Pavillion for the World's Fair, the New York City CBS building, and the Boston Prudential Center. Joseph was working for the New York Facilities Development Corporation as a construction engineer working on projects including hospitals, group homes, and state penitentiaries until his retirement. Joseph was a Charter Member and Trustee of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7462 in Piermont, NY. Joseph is survived by his beloved brother Dominick DeVito and sister-in-law Rosemary, sister Mary Welch and brother-in-law Robert, brother Daniel DeVito and sister-in-law Janice, nephew Daniel DeVito, and niece Cara Brister. Joseph was predeceased by beloved brother Nunzio DeVito. A Funeral Service will be held Monday, 10 AM, at the Moritz Funeral Home, 98 Route 303, Tappan, NY (845) 359-0890, with burial to follow at Rockland Cemetery in Sparkill, NY.
