Tappan Zee High School


Lewis DeMaio passed away Monday, March 19, 2012 at Nyack Hospital. Born in Brooklyn, NY on October 20, 1932, he was 79 years old. A lifelong resident of Piermont, NY, he spent a lot of his time working on and enjoying the Hudson River. A graduate of Tappan Zee H.S. in 1951, he later attended Temple University and played football there. He served 4 years in the U.S. Navy sailing out of Norfolk, VA. Lew served on the Piermont and Clarkstown Police force before joining Orange and Rockland Utilities in 1966. He retired from 0 & R in 1988. His winters were spent in West Palm Beach, FL. Lew was a member of Piermont V.F.W. and the I.B.E.W. He is survived by his wife of Barbara Ann of 58 years, 2 sons Lewis M. and wife Linda of New City, W. Mark S. and wife Regina of Orangeburg, W. Also, 2 grandsons Jason M. DeMaio and wife Jacquelin of Helmetta, NJ and Mark S. DeMaio, Jr. of Orangeburg, W. He was predeceased by his brother Leonard (Ding) DeMaio. A private service was held. He is survived by his loving sister, Mary O'Sullivan of Pearl River, sister-in-law, Annamae Crable of Sparkill, and many caring friends, especially Tom Zimmerman and Pauline Ellis. He is predeceased by his brother John and his wife Catherine, his brother William, and brother-in law Niel O'Sullivan. Bob is also survived by many devoted nieces and nephews. Besides his love of politics, Bob enjoyed spending his summers by the ocean at Long Beach Island. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday 10:00 AM at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart RC Church, Tappan with interment to follow at Rockland Cemetery, Sparkill. Visiting hours are Saturday 7-9 PM and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Anthony R. Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Avenue, Northvale, NJ.
