Obituary

Capt. Eugene H. Black, Ret, Passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2000 at the Hadlow Center of Community Hospice of complications from Colon Cancer. He was born in Elizabeth, NJ, June 11, 1935 and grew up in Piermont, NY. He enlisted in the Navy, graduated from Iowa State College (University) and was commissioned in the Navy in 1959. He served at sea aboard several ships, among them the U.S.S. Dyess, U.S.S. Macdonough, U.S.S. Manley, and U.S.S. Butte as its Commanding Officer. After retiring from the Navy, he was Director of Operations for the Alaska Marine Highway and then went to Westinghouse/ Siemans as Project Manager. Mr. Black is survived by his wife, Carol Ann Black; sons, Eugene H. black III, Portsmouth, RI, Andrew Black and Matthew Black, both of Jacksonville; daughters, Carol Anne Parker, Lexington Park, MD, Julianne Sullivan, Philadelphia, PA; grandchildren, Riannon, Aleca. Nicholas, Helena, John, Kathryn, Sheila and Regina. The family will receive friends this evening, Friday, March 24, 2000 from 2 PM until 4 PM and 6 PM until 8 PM with a Vigil at 6 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10AM Saturday, March 25, 2000 at Christ the King Catholic Church with The Reverend Brian Carey, Celebrant. Arrangements under the direction of Arlington Park Funeral Home, Jacksonville, FLorida.
