Life After Tappan ZeeGeorge E. O'Hara
After Graduation I worked at odd jobs; I drove a bus for Red & Tan, drove a School bus for the new TZ High; worked part time on the Piermont Police Department for 17 years. I was in the Piermont fire department for 20+ years and was one of the original divers on the Rescue Team. I was on that team until I got my exempt papers and left the department. I spent a short time in the US Navy.
In 1961 I went to work for the New York State Thruway Authority on the Tappan Zee Bridge (for a summer job). 33 years later, after spending 25 of them as the Bridge Supervisor, on the TZ Bridge, setting up a bridge unit on I 95 from the Bronx to the Connecticut state line, then went to the Albany Division at Amsterdam until I retired (some summer job!).
I used to own a Campground for 17 years in upstate New York, 35 miles west of Albany called "Hide-A-Way Campsites" next to Howe Caverns. We recently sold the campground and have moved to Florida for a while.
I have one daughter and three step daughters. My wife Janice and I love to travel in our Motor home. It's nice when you can go visit, spoil the grand kids and then leave. They live in Texas, Oklahoma, North Carolina, and New York.
About 2 years ago in April, my wife got a computer that I wanted nothing to do with until she went on Classmates! I went to the TZ site and the #1 person I saw was Charlie Meore my best friend in school. I got in touch with him and we have been talking everyday from that day on. We have been to each others house (he lives in Florida) and it's great.
I hope this project will bring about the same thing for a lot more school mates. Charlie asked on classmates if the class wanted to have a reunion there was NO response I hope this will do a lot better.
